Usually is outgrown: Acne is related to hormones that start to be made at puberty in boys and girls. The hormones stimulate the oil gland, sebaceous gland, to become large and active, to produce alot of oil and often a bad, thick kind of oil, sebum. The first acne are little clogges pores, whiteheads and black heads, buf often the acne gets bigger and inflammed over time. Many people end  acne at age 20 but not all.

Yes and yes: Oils can be highly inflammatory and can cause dermal inflammation.  When acne is resolved, the inflammatory reaction usually goes away.

Takes months: They are granulation tissue and the new blood vessels haven't acquired the ability to constrict or been removed as the new dense connective tissue replaces the area where the skin was destroyed by the infection. Already answered: but to recap it can take weeks to months, and sometimes red spots can leave scars so the sooner you treat the better, see derm for LED treatments and laser to treat red spots and lighteners for dark spots

Manage your acne: You are not going to be able to do a thing about the red marks until they fade on their own in a few months. Use benzoyl peroxide daily to prevent new breakouts and have a chat with your physician as well.

Time: Red marks are a sign of immaturity in a scar.  Wait, wait, wait and then be patient.  All red marks will generally return to normal skin color with time  (6 months to 1 year).

Slow down: Oftentimes , the use of a tretinoin-containing topical can cause irritation , redness and peeling. The best approach is to wait a few days and restart the medication and apply every other or every third night to help with tolerability. Also the use of a light moisturizer such as cetaphil or cerave may be of help.

Fade with time: Your marks will fade with time. Make sure to wear sunscreen every morning since sun can cause darkening of the face and make red marks more pronounce. Talk to your doctor about chemical peels and possibly using Retin-A to make scarring less pronounced.
