: I'm under the impression that the advantage of the glycinate  is less propensity to cause diarrhea but no difference as a sleep aid. Both forms can suppress muscle cramps and act on nervous system regulation.

No: Magnesium glycinate is the chelated form of magnesium that tends to provide the highest levels of mg and is good for correcting mg deficiency. Magnesium gluconate is the mg salt of gluconic acid. Gluconic acid occurs naturally in fruit, honey, and wines.

Depends: Both  are a good source of elementary magnesium supplement in deficiency. Magnesium cittrate is a laxative and good for constipation but citrate inscreases stomach acid assimilation and worsen pain  especailly people with acid reflux or if taken in empty stomach. The glycine in magnesium glycinate is an Amino Acid can help with sleep and feeling calm if taken at night. It is not a laxative.

Could be: magnesium has muscle relaxation effects generally, which can be helpful with the tension from anxiety, &amp; can promote better sleep.  There are different magnesium compounds (mag oxide, mag Glycinate, etc)&amp; they are absorbed differently but would probably have similar effects on anxiety in the long run.

Magnesiu: Various forms of magnesium.  Oxide is very common, because cheap to make however, poorly ablosrbed. Epsom salts are Magnesium sulfate and citrate is in laxatives. aspartate, glycinate malate good for muscle energy and orotate, threonate and taurate most lipid soluable and best for headaches. Some magnesium products are combined glycinate and taurate for example which covers muscles and brain.

Interesting: Magnesium is supposed to be relaxing. It is possible that you are low enough that low magnesium is hindering your metabolism and when you take some this normalize. You may have other deficiencies. I am just guessing. Hard to really tell without doing a full orthomolecular workup on you.
