for months, ive had a worsening feeling of a lump or construction in my rt neck above collarbone; worst when lying down. recent thyroid us was clear. im concerned about possible lymphoma or other conditions involving the supraclavicular node.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor and discuss if you may be depressed. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity at tolerated.

my son has crohns since 2014.  methotrexate for 3 1/2 years.  his tsh at diagnosis was 3.98.  today it is 5.38.  t4 normal.  no symptoms of thyroid issue at all.  worried it could be tumor or lymphoma.  gi wasn't worried - but not sure she would know?

Mgt.: If he is taking immune modulators, I would suggest possible imaging and an appointment with Endocrinology.

i had thyroid ct scan, everything was normal. had labs today for upcoming app. & doctor ordered lymphoma blood test. any reason why if scan was normal?

Unrelated diseases: Hi. The lymphoma blood test (flow cytometry, I assume) looks for a monoclonal white cell population. A CT of the thyroid (not a standard or ideal test for thyroid evaluation) looks for anatomical abnormalities of the thyroid. Thyroid anatomical abnormalities and lymphoma are distinct conditions with the very rare exception of thyroid lymphoma. Have you had a needle biopsy of your thyroid?

lymphnodes swollen in neck for 3 years could it be lymphoma?

3 years?: Unlikely to be malignancy if the nodes have been around (and unchanged) for 3 years.  If you have seen changes recently or are having other symptoms (swallowing/breathing problems, fevers/night sweats), see an ENT surgeon for evaluation.

have you done a neck biopsy to rule out lymphoma? how hare is it?

I have HAD a neck: Node biopsy, and i did not have lymphoma, but that is why i had it done!  it is a very typical procedure for an ENT or general surgeon to perfom as an outpatient undder local anesthesia. Getting the node (as opposed to aspirating cells) defines the archtecture and the composition of cell by a hematopathologist. Some nodes show other things, benign and malignant.

for a neck biopsy (to rule out lymphoma) how many nodes do they take out?

Accepted Answer

Maybe one: Usually only one lymph node can be sufficient for the pathologist to study, as all the lymph nodes in a region are expected to show similar findings. If there are more than one lymph node that are enlarged, then sometimes more are removed.

is there a chance i have lymphoma? i have a small moveable lump on the side of my neck. i am so anxious.

Unlikely: most lumps in neck are lymph nodes, may be enlarged due to local infections, lymphoma is very rare as compared to local infections. Please see your physician for complete evaluation

would lymphoma cause like just one or 2 palpable nodes or like many through out neck and head? or if all over would it be more like lupus?

Likely Lymphoma: It is less likely that lupus gives pts enlarged lymph nodes. One or two lymph nodes  or multiple is common in lymphomas (hodgkin may give less number and larger nodes?).

i have 5 mm spraclavicular palpable mobile lymphnode since 1.5 years.no change in size.also have few in neck and axila. low grade lymphoma?

Accepted Answer

Unlikely...: Low grade lymphomas are not impossible, but are very rare in patients less than 40 years of age.  Lymphadenopathy should always be evaluated by your doctor to see what is causing it.  There are many benign conditions that can also cause enlarged lymph nodes.  Please voice your concerns to your doctor and find out what is going on.

i have lump on side of my neck and been there for over 5 months, not painfull, hasn't grown. having other health issues aswell.could this be lymphoma?

"could be": But could also be lots of other things, particularly at 23. See your dr for exam and testing.
