what does it mean lymph nodes negative but 3 nodules found around the tumor , is it possible that other nodules might still be in the colon?

Satellite tumors can: Occur around the primary, but nodes are separate entities. The size, location of the tumor, penetrance through the bowell wall are important. The node dissection and patholgy needs to find > 13 nodes for evaluation; fewer leads to uncertainty.

i have numerous lung nodules.  colon resection done 7/2011. cancer in mass and 2 lymph nodes.  new scan shows numerous nodles in both lungs (very small),  largest is a 7.0mm and too close to artery.  my cea is 5.6 and suv is 2.  what do u think?

Not great: If need to they might do pet scan otherwise its metastatic till otherwise proven.

Metastatic colon CA: Typically,metastatic cancer (cancer that has spread to organs/areas beyond where it started) is considered incurable.There are some exceptions; if colon cancer has a single metastasis to the liver OR a lung, then chemotherapy &amp; surgical removal of the met might be successful (perhaps 50%).For more than one organ, chances are less, &amp; treatment frequently shifts towards comfort if chances poor/none.

Ask Pathologist: No way to say without pathological analysis of a tissue specimen. How were the findings discovered? If no sample of the lesions were obtained you would require a colonoscopy to get a sample to find out.

Colectomy??: Was this your first colonoscopy?  Did you know of any polyps previously.  A colon that contains literally hundreds of polyps (nodules) suggests a genetic syndrome - the problem being that any of these polyps could potentially be precancerous.  You need to discuss this with your gastroenterologist right away, as you may need to have the colon removed.

Can't tell: ...But if the cancer has not spread beyond the lymph nodes, it is still curable.  We respect patient's decisions regarding treatment choices but i wonder why someone in these circumstances would prefer to go untreated. If this is about you, please think about it well.

: By my limited knowledge, the presence of esophageal polyp(s) does not indicate a colonoscopic screening so I can defer that there is no association. Take care.

Highly variable: Each person is different and there is no set time or schedule where colon cancer may or may not spread to lymph nodes or to other organs. Some small colon cancers will spread early and other cancers will grow large and not spread.

Unknown: Highly variable from one person to the next. It likely depends on the cell type and cancer dna that can vary between each person. Some cancer types are more likely to spread than others.

Accepted Answer

Can occur..: But hopefully your colon cancer was found before it could spread to the liver. Colon cancer can spread to the liver in any person, irregardless if you gave cirrhosis or not. See your oncologist to evaluate what the best treatments may be for your specific condition. Blood testing and x-ray tests such as ct, mri, or pet scans are indicated for some people.
