sick with a cold a week ago, had a soar throat along with very tender lymph nodes in neck. not ill anymore but neck lymph nodes still very tender, something to be concerned? how long does the tenderness go down after illness? should i see a doctor?

Mono: You may have had mononucleosis or a strep infection. It would be worth seeing a doctor to get a definitive diagnosis

can lymph nodes in neck be sore like a sore muscle? 60 days past protected sex. 33 days negative 4th gen duo hiv test. now have sore maids under ear and all down neck. is this hiv symptoms? please someone can they weigh in on this beside dr signh?

: Sore muscle is unlikely related in any way to lymph nodes. Your test is conclusive:  it is not possible you have HIV. And HIV doesn't cause "sore" lymph nodes or muscle pain. See a doctor if your symptoms continue or you otherwise remain concerned. This is your second (or third?) question along these lines. The answer won't change, so make this the last one, OK?

Rule out tumor: Tender knots on head could be inflamed cysts or skin malignancies.  If there is associated lymph nodes these could be drainage from infected lesions or spread from malignant skin tumors which are enlarging. See surgeon to consider bx of head lesions. That will tell you what the cervical nodes are and what kind of treatment necessary to resolve issue.

Takes time....: Takes time to get rid of residual inflammation. A mouth spray (chorseptic) and NSAID can help your throat pain. "we are  still not in the time of getting better yesterday!".

Patience: If you feel you are getting better i would give it some more time. Your lymph nodes can stay swollen for months after an illness. If they are getting larger, or more numerous, that is a different story and see your doc asap.

Congested LN/chest: May be from PND which may be increased post nasal surgery with activity or can be  new onset infection as you are   somewhat immunocompromised being post op . Would call you surgeon and discuss use of zyrtec, and antibiotics. Try gargling a bit with salt water ( 1 teaspoon salt in glass water) and elevate head of bed.

Unlikely...: Unless there is acute infection or inflammation involving the meninges.

Painful nodes: Point toward infectious etiology, and jaw pain may indicate dental cause, particularly closed off abcess. Dentist & x-ray would be my first stop. The list is longer for painless nodes.

See MD: If you are still having pain, I suggest an ER visit now.  You may need to have an MRI or CT to see what is causing these issues.  I do not want to speculate on cause, I think best is to be seen to establish diagnosis and treatment if needed.  Good luck.
