Bronchspasm?: In addition to the local inflammation of lung tissue by the chemical substances possible bronchospasm may explain the chest pain. Need pulmonary function tests ,to be ordered by a pulmonologist , to r/o reactive airway disease. If confirmed will benefit from bronchodilator inhalers -commonly used one is albuterol inhalation, a prescription medication.

You should see your doctor about this right away.

OTC cough medication: It's difficulty, if not impossible, to give individual advice with scant information but a nasty cough ; burning lungs is best evaluated by your family doc to determine whether you need antibiotics and/or breathing medications. Go to er/urgent care if you're getting worse ; can't wait for an appointment. You can also try over-the-counter cough suppressants. Don't wait if you have fevers sweats etc.

See Dr.: Depending on how long the 'burning is present' etc, the intensity of it, etc. You should see a dr. For an evaluation.  If you smoke, stop. Stop smoking: Its your lungs telling you to stop smoking. Maybe other words for it (bronchitis, pneumonia, etc., ), but it really boils down to the first thought.

Extra secretions..?: The cilia become more actve after stopping smoking.  More phlegm can be produced or brought up as a result.  Perhaps this is causing some extra irritation?  Of course this would only be temporary.
