OTC cough medication: It's difficulty, if not impossible, to give individual advice with scant information but a nasty cough ; burning lungs is best evaluated by your family doc to determine whether you need antibiotics and/or breathing medications. Go to er/urgent care if you're getting worse ; can't wait for an appointment. You can also try over-the-counter cough suppressants. Don't wait if you have fevers sweats etc.
