Yes: Yes, it could be lung cancer or it could be something else. Risk factors, overall size, growth rate, radiographic characteristics all play a role in diagnostic suspicion. You should discuss with your thoracic surgeon. 6mm plus what baseline would help in ability to biopsy.

CT follow-up: Get a CT scan if not done yet. Isolated lung nodule of 6.6 mm is too small to be detected by PET-CT, and also too small to biopsy at this time. Your risk for primary lung cancer is relatively low given your young age and nonsmoker status. But I suggest you to see a lung doctor for opinion and CT follow-up. In addition, what did your MRI abd show?

Mgt: Small nodules which are stable without other risk factors for cancer, may represent past infection.

Many possibilities.: Noncalcified lung nodules are worrisome, especially if you are a smoker (as you have), &amp; more so if you are a "heavy" smoker (based on number of packs per day, &amp; no of yrs that you've smoked). A nodule could be scar tissue, or the effects of an infection or radiation; however, most worrisome, of course, is lung cancer. To identify cause, next step is usually bronchoscopy (scope to look) &amp; biopsy.

my mother had a recent ct scan, it showed 3 lung nodules, 4mm 6mm & 9mm she is 77yrs has had a cva 2yrs ago, history of lymphoma, & ex smoker. cancer?

Probably not cancer: But best to talk with your doctor about the possibility of a ct guided biopsy by an interventional radiologist.  A thin needle is passed into the nodule most easily reached and a sample is obtained for pathology.  A biopsy is the only way to know for sure.

lung nodule grew from 6mm to 7mm in 5 months. radiologist said follow fleschman and gp said rescan in 18 months. is 1mm growth not a big concern?

Mgt: Information about the appearance of the nodule, location, and your individual risk factors such as smoking, would be helpful. I would suggest a visit to your pulmonary specialist to review the scan, possible PET scan and their rationale.

Borderline to nope: It would be seen on the ct component of the scan but may not uptake enough FDG to make it light up.  Many centers use 8 mm as cutoff but i guess it will vary a bit from place to place.  I would not call such nodule negative if it did not light up on pet.

last xray found 6mm lung nodule but it was not on an xray fromvthe mpnth before. why so sudden? ciuld it be a mistake?

Any number of things: could mimic a lung "nodule" including artifact, nipple shadow, blood vessels, etc, which, even though it is not a "mistake" could be something inconsequential.  It could have been there on the previous x-ray, just not detected.  Have your doctor who ordered the study look at it to see if another x-ray or imaging study is warranted.

If you: are not at increased risk, and the nodule has benign CT features, then the chance of malignancy is less than 1-2%.  This is from the ACR's Lung-RADS classification system. 40% is simply not correct.

F/up CT 1yr: This is a difficult request to provide an answer in this format.  Subcentimeter nodules are rarely malignant.  It is suggest that nodules of 4-6mm in size have a 0.8% risk of being malignant in one study to up to a 5% risk in another series. 
Risk factors,e.g. smoking,etc may alter the risk.  It is generally felt that it would be wise to perform a follow-up CT scan in 1 year with a nodule 4-6mm.
