Post nasal drip: Sinus congestion can sometimes cause a cough as the drainage from your sinuses drips into the back of your throat and creates a sensation that triggers your cough reflex.  Sometimes it seems worse during eating because you try to breathe through your nose while eating and this causes more sinus drainage into the back of your throat.

Determine the cause: Depending on the cause, the treatment can be given. A majority of chronic coughs can be associated with 1.Asthma 2.Post nasal drip 3. Acid reflux. For more acute conditions such as what you describe, should be explored in greater detail with a physician who will also perform a physician exam.

4 .5 m.o. baby appears to have a cold. no fever, breathing fine but does have minor chest congestion, eating fine. she just spit up after eating & had a small amount of green mucus. is it ok to monitor symptoms @home or do i need to take her in?

Coughing up phlegm: Coughing up phlegm can come from numerous causes.  Primary pulmonary disease, e.g. Emphysema, bronchitis, etc., can be the source.  It is also possible postnasal drip from sinusitis/allergies can be the cause.  I would see your doctor to be evaluated.

Most other lung constrictive processes occur at the arteriolar level or before, so it's important to be very specific about the terminology here.

Many causes poss: There can be many causes of cough: sinus infection, allergy, bronchitis, pneumonia, acid reflux and more. It is hard to answer your question without a thorough examination and detailed history.  If your cough is severe or persists an abnormally long time, see your md.

If has not being going for more than 2 or 3 days and there is no fever can wait otherwise see a doc.

Fluid: Crackles are an exam finding that can only be heard with a stethoscope, and typically indicate fluid buildup within the lung tissue.  The two most common causes are pulmonary edema (from heart failure) and pneumonia.

Virus: Sounds like you had a viral URI (upper respiratory infection), with residual lung congestion.  This can take months to completely resolve.  You need to be managed by a primary doctor.  Sounds like they are treating appropriately.  May just take time.

Sinus: Is more likely the source, in fact it's the back of the nose. Probably is made of dried secretions.
