Post nasal drip: Sinus congestion can sometimes cause a cough as the drainage from your sinuses drips into the back of your throat and creates a sensation that triggers your cough reflex. Sometimes it seems worse during eating because you try to breathe through your nose while eating and this causes more sinus drainage into the back of your throat.
