Lung fluid worsening: Your father needs to go see his doctor to discuss why he stopped the medication- was he having side effects, too costly? Whatever the case, his doctor may be able to offer him an alternative so the fluid in his lungs does not get worse to the point where he has difficulty breathing.  If the cause of the fluid has not yet been determined, he  should also discuss diagnostic tests with his doctor.

If your cancer is incurable and this is what you want to do with your remaining time, that is your business. For many, the last months are for closure, reconciliation, and fulfilling things you've dreamed of. This isn't the place to talk about marijuana for cancer patients.

You can reduce your risk of cancer by adopting healthy habits: Eat a mostly vegetarian diet, avoid alcohol, tobacco and street drugs, avoid excessive exposure  to sun, get HPV vaccine, exercise 30 minutes each day, drink enough water so your urine is mostly colorless.

For certain subtype: If you have a certain subtype -i.e. Certain molecular abnormality -alk-1 fusion abnormality- the response could be dramatic. There is no benefit of this therapy  if you don't have the molecular abnormality.

Need to quiz your: Med onc about alk and egfr mutations.  These molecular markers have specific drugs that can cause response and improve survival. That said, you should also query about third or fourth line drugs and potential benefit and toxicity.  Ask about palliative care to deal with symptoms, you do not have to suffer awful sie effects in a futile effort.  Acceptance is not giving up, it acknowledges limits.

Sadly not long: The average 5 year survival for stage 4 lung cancer is near zero.
