i found a lump on the back of my daughters neck. it doesnt appear to hurt her. should i be concerned?

No: Such lumps are invariably benign and mostly consist of enlarged lymph nodes due to recent infection or inflammation of scalp or surrounding skin/head and neck region.Make sure to mention this to your child's pediatrician at her next appointment for this to be checked. In the meantime, keep an eye on the lump mainly to make sure it is not growing consistently.

? Infection: If you have a lump in last 24 hours, it could be due to injury or infection. If you have a fever or pain with that lump which indicates an infection then you want to see a doctor asap. Sometime we don't notice the  lump or bump for sometime even though they are there for long time. If you think that the lump might be there for long time, then you want to a surgeon on routine basis.

i have had a small lump on the back of my neck now, for about three years. its kinda hard and noticeable only when i look down. it does not move. it appeared after i had my last child. anyone know what this could be?

Neck nodule : May be a cyst,  or fibroma. Lipomas-benign fat tumor tend to  be soft If on the side may be a lymph node but three years is a long time for lymph node enlargement.  Would follow up with dermatology for a diagnosis and biopsy and possible removal.

Normal lymph node: We have lymph nodes scattered throughout our body & they are often detected in the neck where they sit on top of neck muscles. These nodes are little fluid strainers that take body lymph & remove stray germs and debris from things like bug bites. They are often pea sized at rest & grow to dime sized when working. Within 2-3 wks they often shrink back down unless they are stimulated further.

Depends: Low to mid range fever is both common at that age &amp; causes range from simple viruses to ear infections &amp; more. If the kid seems happy/feeds well &amp; plays some when the fever is down simple comfort measures at home are fine. If the kid doesn't take fluids well enough to pee every 6 hrs/seems lethargic or otherwise spooks you take it in for an exam.
