How do you FEEL?: Many (maybe most) pathologists and nephrologists aren't impressed with the current practice of labs estimate GFR, creatinine clearance and so forth from a spot creatinine. Some formulas include race "because black people are more muscular than white people" -- these were never intended to be applied to individuals. Frankly, if your others labs are healthy, I'd ignore it.

Renal Failure: Your query raises some interesting points. If your data are correct, at a creatinine clearance of 7 ml/min, your father should be on dialysis. Is he? If so, speak to his nephrologist (n). If not, have him see his physician who can examine him and take some blood work to see what his blood count is. Proteinuria: You have 1 gram of proteinuria/day (p), which is a lot. Your physician should send off blood for aso, anca 2, complement C3 and c4, hiv, hepatitis b antibodies, hb a1c and ana. A renal biopsy may be needed, to get a diagnosis and a prognosis if the blood work does not give a diagnosis of your p. Your p needs to be treated and once a diagnosis is made, you can start on a course of treatment.

Otherwise, your kidneys seem working well.

: By those results it seemed you had a 24 hour urine collection besides the routine blood test. The creatinine clearance is much higher (better) than the GFR is probably due to overcollection. All numbers are fine but you probably concern with a high BUN. BUN result varies a lot, not a good marker for kidney function. It is high with steroid use, high protein intake or low volume when tested.

A high creatinine clearance may be seen with uncontrolled diabetes, which you do not have.  Speak to the physician who ordered these tests on you for more information, he knows you best.

Most of the time low creatinine clearance is due to some sort of disease of the kidneys themselves like inflammation or decreased blood supply.
