when is it time to go to the er for chronic back pain?

Red flags: That should make a patient seek immediate medical attention are unbearable pain in spite of therapy already recommended, inability to control legs/ walk, incontinence, loss of sensation in the perineal area.

i am having pain from my right upper side with sever back pain. idk if i should wait for my drs app monday or go to the er?

You will know: The ER is used for emergencies. That said, is the pain new, very severe,  (maybe or maybe not) accompanied by any motor,or sensory loss (absolutely)! was given flerxil 4upper back pain in er. doesn't work at all. i have tramadol but never took it. how long after flex can i take tramadol 50mg safely?

NSAIDs: 
You should take naproxen 500 mg twice a day with flexeril 10mg up to three times a day. Adding narcotics is for severe pain only. Depending upon the mechanism of your back injury you may require a spine specialist to intervene and assess your pain with imaging. Rest, ice, and trigger point or transforaminal injections should be considered first and a pain management consultation as well.

Too late: Since you have been waiting a while for this answer (sorry), I am sure it is too late to go to the er.  Back pain between the shoulder blades is one of the most common "pains" that i see in my practice and can be caused from many daily living activities from computer use to large breasts.  Have a chest x-ray to be safe especially if you are a smoker.

Pinched disc.: That must feel awful and is likely due to a pinched nerve in your back. Time to go to urgent care and they will do the rest. I hope you feel better soon.

Nerve impingement?: can be caused by being sandwiched between two spinal bones, pressed by a bulging. It can cause muscle spasm and back pain. Prevention treatment is always recommended. This condition must be professionally managed. See interventional pain management specialist for definitive diagnosis and management. It is the same as a pinched nerve.

my bf has sudden severe lower back pain. he says it feels like it did when he pulled it sledding, but has not done anything to injure himself. er?

Back pain: Try rest ,plus Motrin 600mg 3x a day, heat contrasted with ice over area of pain ( heat for 10 min followed one hour later by applying ice for 5 min,  Do this 4 x a day ) if no improvement within 48 hours , he should be seen by a doctor

have had lower pelvic and back pain on rt side for over 6 months. e.r. checked & is not kidneys & referred to female dr.. should i worry? pain worse.

However, back pain is a is a very common chronic condition, affecting about 10-12% percent of the adult population in the US. Nerve impingement can be caused by being sandwiched between two spinal bones, pressed by a bulging. It can cause muscle spasm and back pain. Prevention treatment is always recommended and no need for ER.
