i have been on hrt for 9 years having started menopause at 38 years of age.  i'm concerned with long term use of hrt. should i continue with this?

Probably: If you went in menopause at 38 that was very early and estrogen replacement is definitely recommended because normally your levels would be higher.  You should continue until the average time women go into menopause which is ~ 51 y/o.  Then be reevaluated by your doctor to see if continuing or trying to stop is the best option.  More benefits of hrt are seen in younger women than older women.

35 years, childless, hypothyroidism, 50 mcg thyronorm daily. read long term use of thyroid hrt can increase risk of breast cancer. is this true?

Accepted Answer

No: this medication is a synthetic Thyroid hormone which you need to survive.  The levels should be monitored and adjusted by a doctor.  It should not increase your Breast cancer risk. The replacement hormones people use for hot flushes (estrogen/progesterone) during and after menopause do cause increased risk.

is hrt rate of 135 dangerous,mi. dr pulled me off fentanyl100mcg every48hrs  he says ill be fine is this true,he is no longer able to perscribe medica?

Hope this helps: Depending on the rythm the heart rate can have more issues than others. If you are on fentanyl I would make the assumption you have pain. If such is the case then you probably have Sinus Tachycardia. Normal response heart rate. If not, and your rythm is Atrial Fibrillation for example with a CHADS2 score &gt;2 you might need anticoagulation. So it depends on the picture if the HR is "dangerous" or no

if i am 25 and i need hrt for both estro and prog,  can i take them until my body is no longer deficient and then stop, or am i stuck for life?

Either way: Some women stop at the average age of menopause, around 51, or some women continue on.  Obviously, the reason to take now is to protect your bones and heart.  After you reach the average age of menopause, then it would be completely a personal decision on your part, assuming you had no risk factors (like heart disease) to continue.

Increases risk: Hormone replacement therapy (such as Premarin (conjugated estrogens) etc) have been shown to increase the risk of certain cancers (such as breast cancer) in women who have a history of taking such medications.

my hrt is giving me diarrhea, i have changed brands but no luck otherwise it's working great! can i take anti diarrhea meds every day long term?

Cause &amp; effect?: Hi. Correlation does not establish cause and effect. I bet it is more likely your diarrhea is caused by something other than your HRT. The fact you have diarrhea and you're taking HRT does not imply the HRT is causing the diarrhea. The HRT and diarrhea may just be coincidental. I'd suggest you speak with a gastroenterologist to consider other causes of diarrhea. Good luck!

am taking 5mg daily coumadin (warfarin) after massive pe 7 months ago possibly due to long term hrt. what are chances of repeat embolism?

Not enuf info: If you have no other risk factors other than HRT and you've stopped the HRT, and if this is your only spell of thromboembolism, then your risk is low.

had radical hysterectomy w/ bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy at 27 yrs old, due to aggressive cancer. on long-term hrt to put off menopause. risks?

Need hormones: Most of the time  discussions about ill effects of hormonal replacement therapy are on peri menopausal & menopausal woman , not for your age group of 30 . At your age needed to keep integrity of vaginal epithelium, loss of libido , atrophy of genitals , fatigue weakness , mood swings and on , so you need them , risks out weigh the good benefits. Speak to your m.D you need them.

58 yrs. old. after 8 yrs on hrt  no longer taking.  having  hot flashes, urine leakage, vaginal dryness and insomnia.  should i go back on hrt?

Should consider HRT: Your symptoms are very common for postmenopausal women who are not taking supplemental estrogen.  Most of your symptoms will likely improve if you resume your hrt.  The urine leakage is the one symptom that may not improve with hrt alone - you should try kegel exercises (60 to 80 each day for 6 to 8 weeks). If the leakage persists you should see your gynecologist or a urologist.

SAFE for many women: Hrt (and its reputation and safety) constantly changes as new studies come out.  Here is the best review: in patients with no increased risk of breast cancer, heart disease, or blood clots, trans-dermal hrt (patch, cream, gel) is relatively safe, and safe for just a few years, but as few as necessary.
