Not at all: A hypoechoic liver lesion, which is something seen on ultrasound, can arise from a number of things, both benign and malignant. The most common cause of this finding is a benign (non-cancerous) lesion called a hepatic hemangioma. It can also be a benign adenoma, fat in the liver, or a lipoma. However, it can also be a finding in cancer. You should have further testing to know for sure.

Colon mass: Cheryl, this is difficult to answer.  If you have a biopsy diagnosis of colorectal carcinoma, then the liver lesion may represent a metastasis.  It could also represent only a liver hemangioma.  Only a liver biopsy of the lesion is definitive.  Red cell tagging studies sometimes can be definitive noninvasive study for liver hemangioma but does not have 100% sensitivity and may give false negative.

3mm hypodense liver lesion in caudate lobe & two 3mm hypodense pancreatic head lesions on ct in setting of carcinoid workup. can these be tumors?

May or may not be: It takes time and follow up CT scans to see if these tumors are growing in size. if they are not tumors(cancer) it will remain unchanged in size over a period of 3-6 months. A biopsy may be required to confirm it in case these lesions are increasing in size(growing bigger). They are too small to do a  biopsy now, need to be at least 1Cm or bigger.

Liver lesion: Many questions.  Without more information, the answer is "Yes" &amp; this should not be ignored.   Is there a known problem of Hepatitis C, chronic use of alcohol, past cancer  problems (Lung, Breast, Intestine?), recent abnormal blood  tests?  Someone with a lesion like this should followup carefully with his or her doctor.

Consult radiologist: to determine if this is just a liver cyst ( common ) or a new growth in the liver. Not sure exactly what is meant by a "mixed lesion". The final diagnosis should come from a board certified radiologist.

Hypodense liver: The list of causes of hypodense liver lesions is rather extensive and can be either benign or malignant.  More clinical information would be necessary.    In the absence of any underlying disease  - i would recommend close followup and perhaps maybe a liver specialist visit for possible biopsy.   Good luck

Probably not: Both types of lesions are benign - especially when they are this small. Best to d/w you doctor if these lesions need to be followed or not.

See below. : Have you pcp review findings with radiologist who read study. Depending upon degree of suspicion of the area, radiologist may only request a short term follow up, pre and post contrast CT, or possibly MRI. The follow up will also depend upon any other findings or symptoms you may have.

Hepatologist: The radiologist and gastroenterologist or hepatologist will sit down together to discuss the differential diagnosis and what further tests would be helpful in determining the nature of the liver lesion. A liver biopsy may be the next test to make a tissue diagnosis.
