They should be norma: The normal levels are under 50 units. But this is a very sentive test. It takes a minor liver damage and the enzymes can go up into  value of 100s.

May be: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your liver enzymes are not bad, but your albumin is low and suggests inadequate intake of protein. You should consider increasing your protein intake by eating meat. If you are a vegetarian, take more lentils, beans and tofu.

Not necessarily: Liver function is mainly looked at through total protein, albumin, international normalized ratio levels, which are proteins that the liver produces to help other parts of the body-if they are consistently low then it can suggest liver dysfunction or under functioning. AST  and  ALT are markers also, but not as specific for liver dysfunction as the above mentioned.

Liver Damage: Normal SGPT is around 20 to 30. So your levels are nearly four times normal and thus very dangerous over the long term.

Liver strain can be caused by medications, alcohol and other drugs, infections and obesity.

Incomplete info: Why did you do the test? What is normal range for SGPT at the lab where the test was done? Are you on any medications? It appears that your SGPT is slightly elevated and a common cause is intake of alcohol. If you take alcohol, stop entirely, and re do the test in three months. It would be prudent to discuss the matter with your doctor who may have more information about your health.

My workup: Hepatitis B and C labs. Serum ferritin. Urinary copper for Wilson's. Anti-nuclear antibodies. Ultrasound to look for fat. Consider biopsy if it's now down. In the meantime, think about hitting the fitness circuit really hard and seeing what happens. Best wishes.

Liver cell ,bile tes: Sgpt (alt) is a test of liver cell  (hepatocyte) activity; increased with liver cell inflammation. Ggt is a test of bile flow. Anything that decreases flow of bile within cells, down tiny canaliculi, small ductules, and larger ducts will cause increase; can be due to inflammation, scarring, stone, tumor, etc. Drugs can increase either or both.

Two enzymes: If they're high in the blood, they've often leaked from injured liver cells. They're not dangerous by themselves, but they mean the cause needs to be found. Alcohol, meds, hepatitis, hemochromatosis and wilson's will be ruled in / out, but perhaps the most common cause in the us today is simply lack of exercise.

Not much: AST=SGOT, ALT=SGPT
It is not the ratio that is such an issue. Elevation liver enzymes indicated injury to liver cells. You enzyme levels are not too high and can be explained chronic panceatitis. If SGOT were higher than SGPT that would have indicated more serious damage. See this site for more info.

See your doctor.: Those results are positive for inflammation of the liver.  Talk with your doctor about what the positive means for Hep B as sometimes the test done is for antibodies.  There are antiviral therapies that one can discuss with their doctor if a patient has an active hepatitis B infection.  A liver biopsy is also a possibility depending on symptoms/ history of disease.
