A 21-year-old male asked:
Does lower sgot(ast) and sgpt(alt) levels (10 and 14 respectively) means weaker liver function? what is the average number of these hormones in blood?

Not necessarily: Liver function is mainly looked at through total protein, albumin, international normalized ratio levels, which are proteins that the liver produces to help other parts of the body-if they are consistently low then it can suggest liver dysfunction or under functioning. AST and ALT are markers also, but not as specific for liver dysfunction as the above mentioned.
