how painful is a full or partial bowel obstruction? im able to pass small amounts of stool and gas but still feel like i cant fully have a bowel movement. i have been on a clear liquid diet for the last few days for possible diverticulitis?

: Clear liquid diet can cause reduction in the volume and frequency of stools. In full bowel obstruction there is bloating, pain.no gas or stool coming out and nausea, vomiting, In partial the symptoms vary. Pl stay in care of doc treating you and any symptoms you worry about - let them check you. I hope you do well

No: A bowel obstruction indicates a blockage and no gas or stool passes.  Accompanied by bloating, abdominal distension, vomiting green bitter liquid and abdominal pain.  A partial or intermittent  bowel obstruction may allow some gas and/liquid stool to pass.  The other symptoms should still be there as well.

C . Diff: Make shure your doctor knows. Could be clostridium defficile.  Happens due to change of intestinal flora after high dose of antibiotics.  Notify your surgeon as soon as possible.

Soft bland diet: I suggest the use of a stool softener and the ingestion of 8-10 glasses of water, ingestion of cereals and fresh fruit fiber. Consult your physician for the name of a recommended stool softener.

Post Op Complication: You are having a post operative complication. It is inappropriate to be seeking care for the complication from any physician other than the surgeon. Surgeon's must be informed of complications so that they can correct the problem before complications worsen. Please contact your surgeon. You were given written and verbal instructions to take home after surgery on how to do this.

Diarrhea: Diarrhea after a salmonella infection can be due to continuing infection(until cultures of stool are negative),antibiotic associated diarrhea(if you were given them), or post infectious irritable bowel syndrome  which can last weeks. Your physician,who knows all your findings, can advise you best.

Bad advice: Low fiber diets are more likely to cause constipation &amp; bowel obstruction.  Drs. used to recommend low fiber diets for diverticulitis and diverticulosis--which is exactly the opposite of what is needed.  To prevent constipation and "keep things moving," I recommend a high fiber diet (several tablespoons of psyllium husks) and plenty of water, each day.  Magnesium and prunes will help, too.

i had a jejunal resection after having an adhesive bowel obstruction. and i have been taking 
low fiber diet. how long do i have to control my diet?

Bowel resection: Depends how much of your jejunum was resected. usually diet control should be for the first 2-3 months unless a large part of the bowel was resected
