Then try to substitute something else - when you feel the urge perhaps say the word "relax" to yourself and imagine yourself someplace relaxing.

On your own, take note of what is going on when you find yourself biting your lip, even write it down. Identify any consistent triggers (stress, for instance). How does the biting relieve you? Now identify something you can do instead, like taking a deep breath in &amp; out &amp; re-focusing your attention.

This is a very bitter liquid painted on to the nails, and discourages biting.
