Identify triggers: The best approach to a compulsive behavior is cognitive behavioral therapy w/ a licensed therapist. On your own, take note of what is going on when you find yourself biting your lip, even write it down. Identify any consistent triggers (stress, for instance). How does the biting relieve you? Now identify something you can do instead, like taking a deep breath in & out & re-focusing your attention.
