i am being tested for cushings disease, recently done dex test, took pill at 11pm, had blood drawn 8 am next morning, level 13.5 ug/dl did i suppress?

It sounds like you: followed the instructions properly: you took 1 mg of dexamethasone at the proper time (11 pm) and your blood was sampled correctly the next morning at 8 am. A normal test should suppress to less than 5 micrograms/deciliter. So it looks like you did not suppress.Discuss with your Endocrinologist to exclude medication interference, etc,and to plan further testing for Cushing's syndrome/other things

if someone gets blood drawn to determine cause of illness, could hiv be detected although it's not specifically a hiv test?

No: To find HIV, the lab would have to do an HIV test to look for it. Otherwise, there would be no way to see if there is any HIV. Only an HIV test can detect HIV. Adults can get HIV screening tests ordered with their regular check-ups, if they are sexually active and/or have risk factors for catching HIV.

i had blood drawn they said all was ok except a disease that affects your kidneys and bones was detected. what could that be?

Myeloma: Or monoclonal gammopathies may affect both kidneys and bones. In general chronic kidney disease in its progression may affect bone metabolism. Sometimes it is hard to find an unifying diagnosis and decide if there is more than 1 condition contributing.

Marijuana &amp; nursing: Only if the baby's blood is tested for drugs will it test positive, but you are still exposing your child to dangerous drugs during a time when his or her brain is still developing which could have life long effects.

: It is likely they irritated some of the nerve endings that are adjacent to the vein. A cool compress can transiently reduce discomfort while ibuprofen can help diminish any inflammation. The pain should pass in time and the site/nerve endings self heal.

Well, it IS a needle: Puncturing the skin with the needle is a skill and art. It cannot be pain free, however, a good phlebotomist (at whatever level of training), can  often do it with minimal pain. It is usually not worse than a pinch.

Two Ways: There are two ways to check your blood glucose.  One way is that they can do a finger stick, with a small needle at the tip of one of your fingers, and they then process that blood on the glucometer in the office for an instant result.

The second way is by doing a full blood draw from a vein in your arm and sending that blood off to the lab to be evaluated.

Yes: It is common for there to be some soreness/tenderness to the site where you had blood drawn.  It may also be normal to see a small amount of bruising or swelling.  If there is a large amount of bruising/swelling or significant discomfort that causes any debilitation, then you need to speak with a medical provider.

Blood rqd for test: Although some doctors feel they can estimate your hemaglobin level with clues from a physical; eyelid, palm lines, gum pallor, etc. The only way to get an accurate hemaglobin level is to get a sample. Whether this is from a draw ( which gives the best sample) or a finger stick(like a glucose test) you need blood to tell what's in it.
