: Is it getting better or persisting and heavy? May be stress, may be miscarriage,  or threatened miscarriage of due to fibroids, or polycystic ovarian syndrome if you have irregular periods. Would follow up with gyn  you need a blood count as you can get very anemic from period bleeding and possibly an  ultrasound to evaluate  the uterus.

Make : Make an appointment to see your doctor urgently. If you can not get in, go to an urgent care or an emergency room. If the bleeding is accompanied by dizziness, weakness and fatigue you may be losing too much blood and be suffering from anemia.
It is crucial you get assessed. Your doctors treatment plan may include hormone therapy (such as the birth control pill) to help regulate your cycle. Also, in extreme cases, some doctors have reocmmended a Mirena (levonorgestrel) intrauterine device, as the hormone in this device is known to remedy heavy bleeding.

See a Doctor: Any bleeding more than 7 days in a row needs to be evaluated. Please do a pregnancy test as well. You may have a polyp, growth or cyst on ovary or a miscarriage.

Need more info: Both fibroids and Depo-Provera can cause abnormal bleeding.  Depo as a treatment for fibroids is iffy -can sometimes suppress or 'shrink' fibroids, but not always; users of Depo-Provera have 90% rate of stopping periods completely (but may take up to 8-9 mos of irreg bleeding first(!)) and other side effects. Ocps can b tried to stop irreg bleeding from fibroids, but don't alway work, dep on wherefibroids r locat.

Other options: First you need to look into why you bleed so much and try to address that problem. It is possible that birth control pills might be an option, the mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD has been approved for treatment of heavy periods, and there are several methods of endometrial ablation ( destruction of the lining of the uterus available now. If none of these work for you, then hysterectomy is definitely an option.

Uterine Fibroids?: Good diet and multiple vitamins will help you continue to not develop an anemia.  You need an OB workup.  Hormone levels and an ultrasound of your uterus.  It could be hormonal imbalance or uterine fibroids.  At your age it could be either.  There are other causes, but those are the most likely.

No: Once your period has started it is too late to stop it. There are meds that can make it lighter. Talk to your doctor.

Yes: It sounds like you have that?  I'm not sure what the question is.  If you've had it all your 'adult' life, then it's just you.  If you've become much a heavier bleeder than normal that may be due to weight (body fat) gain or a change in diet or hormone therapy.  If you're worried about it or if you're changing a maxi pad or tampon more often than every hour, you should see a doctor.  Good luck.

AUB: A variety of things from irregular ovulation, to low platelets, fibroids, adenomyosis, endometriosis and the perimenopause.  Because of the variety of issues possible, its best to discuss with your provider what he/she thinks is the cause.  If you're done having children, you may be an ablation candidate.
