Radiology hedge.: Renal cysts range from simple to complex. Simple cysts are common and are of no concern whatsoever (Grade 1). Complex cysts have solid regions which are usually an indicator of cancer (Grade 5). By using the word "minimal septation" the radiologist is giving the cyst a Grade 2, which is more likely benign than not. Chances are very good that this is nothing to worry about.

: A low density lesion 0.6 cm in the kidney is usually a cyst and radiologist can make the call. If there is any doubt, radiologist will ask for an adjunct study such as ultrasound, CT with IV contrast or repeat the study in 3-6 months.

Dr should explain: Baby could have one of many types of cystic lesions. Probably most common is so called multicystic kidney displasia, birth defect where part of, or entire kidney is made up of a bunch of cysts.Opposite kidney is usually normal and child will have a normal life.May have a simple cyst, may have a complex cyst which is usually benign.Can be an obstructed calyx or blocked part of duplex kidney. Ask dr.

Not necessarily: Cystic renal lesions range from simply cysts (spherical sac of fluid such as water) to more complex cystic masses such as cancer. Need followup: Renal cysts are common. The majority are benign. Cysts can also be assoicated with malignancies and some malignancies  have cystic areas. A solid exophytic mass may be more worrisome.
YOu need a further workup and you may need a biopsy or surrgical resection to know for sure. Discuss imaging and surgical options with your doctors.

: Why was the CT done is more important. The unfortunate thing is that inconsequential findings from CT could result in more unnecessary tests, expenses and anxiety. It is most likely inconsequential, however discuss with your health care professional so that adequate follow up may help in making sure may be the best option.

: Kidney cysts are a benign collection of fluid in a closed space in the kidney and occur in about 25% of pt and usually found incidentally when being tested for another condition. Low density means it is not a solid lesion which would be a tumor. Nothing needs to be done about it . just an ultasound followup in a few years .
