my left soft palate is really sore and swollen. it only hurts on my left side of mouth and has been like this for 3 days. what could this be?

Probably a cold sore: You may have a canker sore caused by the herpes virus.  These are especially painful little lesions that may occur in the mouth.  They may be so painful as to cause it to be difficult to swallow! you could try some Valtrex (valacyclovir) from you fp to decrease the pain intensity and duration. For the most part, this is a viral infection that may just take some time to heal. Continue with supportive measures.

Probably not: In my experience it sounds more like inflammation that something more serious.  Tonsil always being swollen is an issue.

Seasonal flu: is very common viral infection. Usually the condition resolves on its own with home care. Drink water and get a good rest. NSAIDs (e.g. Aleve, Advil) or Tylenol (acetaminophen) are also recommended every 6 hours. If concerned, see your PCP for examination.

i have a sore mouth and throat and swallowing is painful. my soft and hard palates are completely white, and my uvula is patchy and pulling to one side. my tonsils are swollen and i have a sinus headache. what is the likely cause?

: It's an infection of some sort, could be an upper respiratory bacterial or viral infection. If bacterial, antibiotics would be helpful. Your physician should be able to accurately diagnose your issue upon examination and prescribe the appropriate medications if indicated.

Could be viral infec: Mouth lining(roof and throat/tongue) are prone to viral infections(sometimes called Canker sores). They often produce shallow ulcers which take 2-3 weeks to heal spontaneously. Usually there is no treatment required.
So give it another 7-10 days. if it does not settle down then you need to go see your doctor for a medical check up. You may need antibiotics.

Vague without seeing: Could be a reaction to the type of foods or beverages that you had, meds, supplements, mouth breathing, allergies.  Has this been there for awhile.  I would see a dentist.

after not eating for 12-24 hours and then begin to eat again my hard palate becomes very sore and swollen. any help would be appreciated. thx?

No idea?: This is not a common complaint.  Why are you not eating for 12-24 hours?  Allergic reaction? This would need to be seen by a dentist for a proper diagnosis. Have him\her look at it when your palate is sore and swollen as described.  You also might want to re-evaluate your eating habits and how this affects your general health. When was your last medical checkup?

See MD: If you are still having pain, I suggest an ER visit now.  You may need to have an MRI or CT to see what is causing these issues.  I do not want to speculate on cause, I think best is to be seen to establish diagnosis and treatment if needed.  Good luck.
