a week ago i woke to a swollen knee couldn't straighten at all. very painfull i can straighten my leg a bit bette still painfull & pain down to ankle?

Swollen knee: a swollen knee without trauma in a 22 year old female is usually activity related. If you don't remember an injury the three causes for swelling in most cases are 1) irritation around the knee cap 2.) a torn lateral meniscus. 3.) a rheumatologic disorder. A virtual consult would be a helpful next step if it doesn't get better with rest/ice/ Motrin within a couple days.

Be seen: I would encourage you to be seen.  If you have not had an injury, the other possibilities include an inflammatory or infectious etiology.  If you are swelling around your knee, extending down into your leg, a blood clot may also be a consideration.  An exam and appropriate studies can usually determine the cause and tell you your treatment options.

i have severe knee pain swollen knee and leg pain radiates down my leg getting worse..went to doctor and he is sending me to pain management.. but worried about this pain..been sore for over a month?

: You should be evaluated by an orthopedist or rheumatologist first if your doctor is not one of them. Pain management is the last option.

See your doctor: You need to determine what is causing the knee in order for it get better.  Your doctor may try to drain some fluid off the knee and perform other tests.

Swelling: You can add a light compression wrap. With that much swelling, it may be best to see an orthopedist and have the knee drained & a diagnosis/cause given.

Prepatellar bursitis: People who work on their knees often develop a prepatellar bursitis. See an orthopedist. It will likely not resolve on its own.

Bone not tendons: They have a great effect on bone healing, but it does interfere with the inflammatory reaction so may have some effect on the healing process but in my experience i never had people who are on them stop.

Swollen knee: A painless swollen knee in the absence of trauma is suggestive of inflammation, likely related to arthritis and overuse with other causes possible as well, including infectious. Crystal induced arthropaties are also relatively common, such as gout or pseudogout. Best would be to start with your GP as a knee tap will be needed in order to formulate a definitive diagnosis and your GP can coordinate.

Eds?: Not familiar w/ abbreviation. Sounds like u subluxated your patella( kneecap) though . Sorry didn't realize you had ehler's danlos syndrome ... Now i understand. As you know very well your joints are 'looser' than ' normal' joints and kneecaps can 'slip' out of place w/ the stresses of squatting.See your ors for evaluation and quad strengthening/ patellar bracing if needed.
