: Actually, high-dose intravenous steroids may temporarily shrink the disc protrusion, but unlikely to be a permanent solution.  Desiccation and disc shrinkage may occur spontaneously over 9-10 months, another option.  Discuss with your spinal surgeon specialist.  Several potential scenarios.

Your : Your condition is likely surgical. You may require a tibiotalar fusion to complete the pantalar arthrodesis or an ankle replacement. Before going for these drastic measures i feel it is reasonable to consider an arthroscopic debridement of the joint, getting rid of the osteophytes on the front of the ankle and stabilizing the peroneals. The ankle joint tolerates arthritis far better than the hip or the knee. There is no perfect answer but you should always try being as least aggressive as possible. Best of luck!

Strength training: Might help to see a physical therapist if an ortho has made DX of impingement. Can improve with cortisone injection, antiinflammatories, pt. Sometimes needs further work up and surgery.

what is the difference between an impingement and tear of a rotator cuff?

Severity of condtion: With impingment, the rotator cuff is being pinched, without necessarily being torn, between the acromion of the shoulder blade and the top of the humerus.   Raising your arm pinches the rotator cuff just like closing a door pinches your fingers if they are stuck between the door and door jam.  A rotator cuff tear implies that the tendon is not simply inflamed but is partially or totally disrupted.

Go see your DR and: Get referred to a neurologist and orthopedic. You may have gone for steroid shots, nsaids & physical therapy. Ultimately, you may need surgery to release the pressure on the ulnar nerve. Take care!

nerve impringement is an abnormal or pathological pressure placed on a nerve by connective tissue, joins or skin and can be in different parts of body due to different conditions
ask your doctor what is causing your nerve impringement.

Hip or Shoulder?: If you are referring to the hip, a trial of physical therapy, nsaids, and activity modification is attempted.  Then, hip arthroscopy can be used (or less commonly, an open surgery) to repair the labrum to the socket and bur off the extra bone on the ball and socket to protect the repair and eliminate the impingement. Shoulder - arthroscopically, you can repair the labrum to the bone as well.
