Few 'stop' the pain: It depends on what you mean by 'damage': crushed nerve?Inflamed nerve?Torn/cut nerve?Narcotics are often first-line for severe pain.If pain is due to inflammation, many drs may try steroids or NSAIDS, nerve stabilizers &amp; anti-depressants.If the nerve is actually intact, but causes neuropathic pain, I'd recommend neuroprolotherapy to quiet the nerve.If effective, it actually DOES stop the pain.

Neurology consult: Need to know exact block, what local anesthetic used and concentration. Also should look into how the lev was placed during surgery to see if pressure on the nerve was possible during procedure. 
Most likely will need an EMG to identify nerve affected and when injury occurred.

Hip replacement : Sounds like quite a complicated post op period. Was this an anterior approach. Was the a revision or an initial replacement. Energy levels will probable take in the neighborhood of 6-8 weeks.

Call your surgeon: Call your surgeon today if you have a question. Even if its not during normal work hours, someone will be covering. In general, wounds should be kept dry until they are not oozing fluid, then it is ok to shower - usually 24-48 hours. Activity as tolerated.  Obviously it depends on the incision location regarding any special instructions. Hope this helps.

Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

EMG can be helpful: The femoral nerve is formed from L2, L3 and L4 nerves that come out of lumbar spine.

Pain in the thigh can come from lumbar spine even though you may not have back or hip pain. 
EMG can help determine in a peripheral nerve  or lumbar nerve is irritated.

Hernias can do a lot: The "posterior cutaneous nerve" I think is AKA posterior division of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN).  LFCN problems mess up feeling in the front, outside of the thigh. Symptoms usu. happen with seat belt inj.,  bone grafts and diabetes. 
There are many weird hernias in the pelvis so it seems possible to compromise the LFCN but in 30 yrs of reading CT and MRI, I've not seen it.

Takes Time: Will take a long time to heal.  Nerves are one of the slowest tissues in your body to return back to normal.  Many times it can be month, if not years if they do heal.
