knee pain is now swelling up a month ago it felt like what a sprained ankle felt like except it's in the back and lower part of my knee.  this morning it swelled up. what can i do about pain and swelling?

by the way i have cerebral palsy and possible art

Have : Have this evaluated by an orthopedist. You may require a knee aspiration not only for pain relief but also for fluid analysis. This will differentiate between an infectious vs. An arthritic process. Crystal analysis may even be able to establish the proper diagnosis. The doctor will require x-rays and may order additional testing.

left ankle sprain now my right knee is in pain when i sit and walk. been alternating cane to keep pressure off ankle and knee. is the knee pain from overusing it? what assistive device do you recommend.?

Yes: Yes the knee pain maybe due to compensatory changes in your walking. Try crutches . Can get a pair at a medical supply store.

Hard to say : It's possible that you injured the knee at the same time you sprained your ankle. A sprained ankle should not cause knee clicking. Have it checked out.

Be seen: A simple ankle sprain should be better by 2 months.  So if you are still having symptoms, consider being checked for a more serious injury.

when i squat i feel unstable in my sprained ankle from the years ago. i think this affects my opposite knee and there is pain in it. knee can't handle?

Need therapy: Small amounts of weakness in ankles or other joints can throw off all of your body mechanics. I would start off with an ankle strengthening program of therapy. You will also need an evaluation by a foot and ankle specialist (orthopedic) to make sure there is nothing structurally wrong.

i have bad sprained ankle and osteochondral defect in same ankle. could this cause the leg to get swollen (from below the knee down to the ankle)?

I would be concerned: For a clot in the leg and I don't think your symptom is consistent with your injury and advise you to have it checked out ASAP, always better safe then sorry.

No: Not normal.  It is possible that in the same injury in which you injured your ankle, perhaps you also injured your knee.  I would not hesitate to be seen for an accurate diagnosis.

Not usually: Narrowing of the medial joint line of the knee is usually due to wearing out of the joint cartilage. An ankle sprain can exacerbate the knee symptoms by altering you gait pattern and putting increased weight on the medial joint line of the knee.

i had a grade three lateral ankle sprain 2mnths ago but the lateral side of my knee has hurt worse than my ankle. knee buckles towards medial side.

Knee ligament injury: There is a chance that you stretched out or tore your lateral collateral ligament of the knee especially if the pain is on the outside portion of your knee. If the pain is on the inner aspect of your knee you may have torn your meniscus

Get examined by an orthopedic surgeon. Any "sprain " that has pain and symptoms more than 6-8 weeks warrants an exam.

knee and ankle pain caused by misalignment after ankle sprain 2 years ago. is there  a way to treat misalignment? need surgery?

Orthotics: changes in your walk after the injury might be the cause. Get an evaluation from your local podiatrist. Foot orthotics aimed at re-aligning your gait may help before resorting to surgery
