: It is reassuring that the cultures are negative, as that suggests it is not a big urinary infection. But other things can cause symptoms that feel like kidneys. One is an irritation of the bladder called interstitial cystitis that can be a low-grade infection. Cystoscopy is needed to look for that cause. Just relax: You only need a fraction of one kidney to survive.  If concerned have your primary order a BUN, Creatinine and GFR.  Avoid Ibuprofen and meds that get cleared through the kidneys and drink plenty of water.
