Usually not: Penicillin antibiotics are not intrinsically nephrotoxic.  Rare patients develop allergic interstitial nephritis from penicillins.  This is characterized by fever, eosinophilia, eosinophiluria, progressive renal insufficiency and sometimes skin rash.

Accepted Answer

Yes but rare: Penicillin is mostly metabolized/breakdown by the liver and the by-product is then excreted to the outside world via the kidneys in the urine. Typically this does not affect kidney functions, but in the rare cases when penicillin causes interstitial nephritis, renal function is affected. So, if you are not taking any else and now has kidney trouble with penicillin, get it checked. Good luck.

UTI: Both are not primary choice. Antibiotic course depends on bacteria growing in urine, detecble via urine cukture. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) or Macrobid ot Ciproflixacin are usually first choice. Please see doc. Thanks. Xf

i was prescribed penicillin for bacterial sinusitis. can penicillin v cause orange-reddish urine? 2 months ago i had kidney stones could it be related?- so far i have no other symptoms i.e flank pain

?hematuria: Sounds more like the Kidney stone issue or some Urogenital tract issue that is most likely causing blood in the urine that you are seeing.  Doubt it has anything to do with the Penicillin.  See the Dr. to get the hematuria assessed.  Best wishes.

Daily penicillin: Will not likely affect your kidney but you are likely to have penicillin resistant bacteria colonizing you.  Daily therapy can be used for prophylaxis against rheumatic fever or pneumococcal infection in certain people.

Antibiotic: Penicillin is one of the first antibiotic ever developed to treat infection.  Unfortunately, due to it's widespread and indiscriminate use, many bacteria became resistant to this great antibiotic.   
Today we still use it to treat many different types of infection caused by bacteria sensitive to penicillin.

No: It is a completely different class of antibiotics.  Azithromycin is a macrolide.  So if you're allergic to penicillins only, you can take azithromycin.

Not that I know: Antibiotics like pencillin generally do not have any effect on cognition.  I am unaware of any psychotropic effects of pen vk.
