hi i have mild uc-only symptoms some blood and mucus in stool. i feel fine but was prescribed mesavant xl-can it ruin my kidneys or should i take it?

Don't ignore it!: If you are having blood and mucus in your stool, your colon is quite unhappy.  Mesavant most likely won't hurt your kidneys and will help turn off the inflammation in your gut.  Talk to your doc about it more but also consider your stress, your diet and possible infection as other things that could cause these symptoms.

Blood in stool: Blood is stool may be from malignancy, hemorrhoid, inflammatory bowel disease, dysentery from infection such as ameba, shigella , virus. Need to see a doctor for evaluation.

Consider examination: You could some hemorrhoids or a case of colitis....I would recommend you make an appointment with your family doctor or a GI specialist.

Probably not: Cause of mucus in stool usually secondary to an inflammatory process such as colitis. This could also  causes loose   stools.  Most Ca's are asymptomatic when small.  As they get larger they obstruct , bleed and occasionally perforate.  Colonoscopy can easily define problem.

loose stools and significant white mucus in stool after starting to take magnesium citrate (150mg, 1 x daily) and probiotic (50bn cfu 1 x daily). used to be constipated (6 months). had fecal calprotectin test 4 months ago and was negative. ibs?

Constipation: You may better off by increasing your fiber and water intake. You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil and drink enough water daily so that your urine is colorless. For the long term you may try to increase your intake of fiber foods. Consult this site for fiber foods.

Not directly: High blood pressure can be caused by pain associated with untreated nephrolithiasis.  Otherwise, no.  I would suggest that you look into other causes of you blood pressure. Sometimes people have high blood pressure without finding any causes-essential hypertension.

Kidney stones: While the kidneys do have a roll in regulating blood pressure, it is unlikely that the presence of non-obstructing stones in the kidney would increase blood pressure.  The passage of stones into the ureter often results in excruciating pain, which in turn, can raise blood pressure.

Plan for each: You have a variety of symptoms, some of which may be related ... others not.  I don't think there is one diagnosis that explains all of your symptoms.  You need to work closely with a doctor you have confidence in to diagnose and properly treat all of these.  Don't get discouraged .... wonder about smoking with the high neutrophils.
