Kidney failure?: Kidney failure is not just based on urine volume. Do you have any idea of what the person's you are talking about bun, creatinine and potassium levels are? If you give more information, the answers you get would be more valid.

very confused my egfr was 79 according to my lab it says normal but on internet it says 100  is normal and i w ok would be stage two chronic kidney disease?

Not accurate: This is not an accurate measure of kidney function.  If you have some underlying medical condition which makes kidney disease likely, an accurate measurement of GFR by 24 hour urine collection and other measurements would be advisable.

i get sharp pains in bladder/ureter when i have shortness of breath/mental confusion/tingling of skin?  can kidney/ureter/bladder stones cause this?

Weakness: A combination of those generalized symptoms in a young person, deserves immediate attention. Please find a local physician as soon as possible, and have a proper work up done. It most likely will require physical examination, lab work, and possible advanced imaging studies. Please seek help soon!

Encephalopathy: I think what you are asking about is uremic encephalopathy which develops as patients begin to experience renal failure.  This is not necessarily due to a kidney infection, nor do all kidney infections result in this condition.  The buildup of various substances that would normally be regulated by the kidney leads to symptoms.

BUN/creat: Is a ratio, not a test. It may just indicate that you were mildly dehydrated when the lab was drawn. Check w/your doctor for better information.

ABO INCOMPATIBLE: Most plasma exchanges or plasmapheresis are done to be able to transplant people across the ABO group or in cases of extreme sensitization to other antigens.  Results are variable, and depends on the desensitization protocol.

i formed 4 kidney stones in 3 months. 22 & i've had over 15 stones. i've done everything i've been told. i'm so tired & confused. what else can i do?

Metabolic work up : I am sorry you have suffered thru 15 stones. Did you ever get any of the stones tested for the type? Have you had a 24 hour urine collection? Have you had blood work done including PTH, calcium etc tested. Have you seen a kidney doc and the dietitian and kept a food dairy? Also you need to drink at least 2 L of water in 24 hours. Need extensive metabolic stone work up in a large teaching hospital.

good evening doctors. i'm confused. i am a 62 year-old male. my egfr is 62, which according to quest diagnostics laboratories range, is normal (anything greater than 60). according to the kidney websites it is not normal. please advise who is correct?

: Great question! eGFR less than 90 cc/min is stage 2 CKD by kidney website but it does not specify the age. Kidney function is naturally declining when people get older so if you have eGFR of 62 cc/min at 62 years old and there is no evidence of kidney disease such as abnormal kidney ultrasound/urine test, your function is normal. Quest's reference range shouldn't apply to people younger than 60.
