BUN/creat: Is a ratio, not a test. It may just indicate that you were mildly dehydrated when the lab was drawn. Check w/your doctor for better information.

Dehydration: Creatinine is more sensitive than BUN in terms of assessing kidney function, although, the most sensitive would be GFR (glomerular filtration rate). Sometimes the high ration is seen in people who are dehydrated or have urea production increase such as liver cirrhosis.

HIgh BUN/creatinine: There are something wrong with your data. Your creatinine (c) is 0.28, which is extremely low. Your bun/creatinine ratio is 28.6, which means your BUN is roughly 10, well within normal limits. If your c is accurate, you must be a woman with very little muscle mass. As a diabetic for 22 years, you should collect 24 hour urine for creatinine clearance and protein to assess your kidney function.
