: IN cases where a DVT is documented, and an IVC thrombus is present, consult a cardiovascular surgeon, who may elect to place an IVC filter to prevent movement of the IVC thrombus into a location where all or part can travel to the lungs, causing a PE.

Yes: Developing occlusion of the great saphenous vein is part of the treatment. This thrombus along with the laser therapy will induce fibrosis in the wall of the vein and eliminate blood flow and reflux.

Thromboembolism: This is not from a DVT but a de novo clot in the ivc? At 16, it is unexplainable. It still has to be treated with anticoagulant so as not to be thrown into the lung to cause pe. If accessible area, a filter may have to be placed to prevent embolism. After all that, a reason for its development has to be worked up with a hematologist and maybe rheum if necessary.

That's main function: The main purpose of the IVC filter is to protect the lungs from blood clot reaching them.  The filter will also prevent blood clots from reaching the right atrium of the heart, however, this is not the main concern as the clot normally travels quickly through the heart into the pulmonary artery of lungs where it gets stuck in the narrowing pulmonary arteries.  This is termed pulmonary embolism.

Depends: In order to safely prescribe medication for a fib it is important to know more about your heart, specifically whether there are any abnormalities.   There are drugs other than amiodarone and tikosyn (dofetilide) but the do not have the same efficacy (success rate ).

Medical treatment: Assuming you are diagnosing yourself, as a newly diagnosed bloot clot needs to be treated with medication to prevent further problems.  Heparin in the hospital setting with eventual transition (possibly with Lovenox (enoxaparin) bridging) to Coumadin (warfarin sodium) is a common treatment, and now there are newer products like xarelto also fda approved.  Discuss treatments with you dr asap.  Good luck.

Cause determination: large clots in the bladder will either dissolve and be voided out or can be evacuated cystoscopically.  The more important question is what caused the bleeding. Anyone with a large clot in the bladder should have a cystoscopy and possibly even imaging of their kidneys to determine the cause
