: That should be safe, yes, BUT very few people would ever need such a high daily dose of Vitamin D- 1000 to 5000 units daily is what most people take (or 50,000 units once a week for 3 months to get things started when level is very low),not 10,000 units daily. It that dose what your Dr recommended?

No: Vit D3 is like a truck delivering calcium from the intestine to your body. In your case, it still works on dietary calcium. It apparently has many other beneficial effects on the body including improved immune regulation and possibly reduction in the risk of developing certain types of cancers and cardiovascular disease.  Whether 3000 u is too much or too little required a blood test to assess.

Who knows: There is some limited information that vitamin d deficiency may be linked to certain psychiatric problems like delusions, however, since it isn't the only cause, i would not advise stopping her current  mediation without talking with your doctor. Is her d level low? 30000 units is a very high dose of vitamin d. How often is she supposed to take that dose? Once or twice a month is ok.

No.: The amount and duration of vitamin D you've taken isn't enough to cause any long term, much less immediate, problems.  Vitamin D toxicity can raise serum calcium levels primarily by resorbing bone.  But cartilage is a non-bony fibrous tissue which isn't directly affected by vitamin D metabolism.  While taking 3000 IU D3 supplement shouldn't cause you harm, there's no real benefit either.

Vitamin D: Most women do not need that much vitamin D on a daily basis but if your obstetrician has uncovered very low levels follow that advice. Otherwise go to a store and purchase bottles of either 1000 or 2000 units. Usually you do not need an expensive vitamin D test.

Yes: Most people  on the planet are d deficient. Have your level checked. For replacement it is recommended to take 1000 iu/25 lbs so most adults will need 5000 iu a day. 2500 iu vitamin d a day is safe . It is hard to become toxic on vitamin d at standard doses.
