deathly afraid of my cystoscopy. do doctors normally prescribe something for the anxiety? its beyond unnatural to have something go up the opposite direction. should i request a valium for the night before like with dental procedures? any tips?

Pre-op jitters: Although this procedure can be done with out medications, dealing with anxiety can reduce  the perception of pain.  I would discuss your concerns with the urologist and anesthesiologist well before  your procedure

: Not here you won't. This is a public information site where volunteer docs answer health questions. It does not offer direct care/prescriptions/notes, etc. Most of those meds are controlled substances monitored by the feds. Docs require special permits to prescribe them and can lose their permit/license if they prescribe them without proper documentation/cause.

Don't take it at all: Valium is a benzodiazepine with high risk for addiction. If used it should be for short term , at least 8 hrs apart but it's better to look ands ask for better alternatives for anxiety , insomnia or muscle relaxation.They are many other medications that can be used for those purposes that don't have the risk of addiction and tolerance.

Dependency: There is a difference between using diazepam as it is intended and addiction (when you take more than necessary to obtain a positive feeling).  Unfortunately, there aren't any concrete rules on how long it takes. Best bet is always to take the lowest dosage of any medicine for the shortest duration possible to achieve an adequate result. Drug interaction: Valium and zoloft (sertraline) can be safely taken together.  This should have been told to you by prescribers unless they were different prescribers.  You should keep all your docs informed of all your meds prescribed by others, and don't take other peoples meds.
