: High blood pressure kills and maims especially in the elderly. Tumeric has not been shown to protect against stroke, MI, kidney failure but BP meds have. Go with the science.

Be careful: Both tumeric and ginger can increase the efficacy of your medication to treat blood clots resulting in an  increased tendency to bleed.  I would not expect it to be a problem if you are using these herbs as spices to flavor your food, but would expect a problem if you are taking them as a supplement. Be careful with the amount you ingest and have your lab values followed.

Yes- usually good: Turmeric has many health benefits. It thins blood, meaning it reduces risk of blood clots & reduces blood viscosity. Thus, like aspirin, it reduces risk of heart attacks & strokes. It improves the rate of blood flow through microcapillaries, increasing delivery of oxygen & nutrients to our tissues. But if you are having surgery or have a tendency to bleed then this could be harmful. See comment:.

No False Negative: Neither Turmeric nor Curcumin should interfere with the detection of blood in a urinalysis. A false negative means that blood is not detected even when it is present. Because of how the urinalysis is conducted, blood is detected both by chemical means on a dipstick and by microscopic means by looking for red blood cells in a microscope. Turmeric and Curcumin do not interfere with this.
