Silvadene (silver sulfadiazine): I suggest you stick with the silvadene (silver sulfadiazine) and see what's left of the burn sites before you apply anything else. I'm always impressed by how well silvadene (silver sulfadiazine) works to prevent infection and reduce scarring. If you're still uncertain have a medical practitioner take a look.

No: When a blister pops it is a portal for possible infection. Keep it clean and watch for any signs of infection.

1st or 2nd degree: Blisters develop in a more serious burn, called a second degree burn.  If you have a first degree burn it isn't going to blister later.  Cool the burn under cool (not cold) running water for 10 or 15 minutes or until the pain subsides. Don't ice it. If it is very large even though not blistered have it looked at.

Go to urgent care.: I 2nd degree burn will blister but it does not affect deep tissue. At the urgent care they will coat it with a medicine and possibly give you an antibiotic.

burn on thumb from hot steam.   very red.  looks patchy or maybe "future blisters" (hard to tell)   internet keeps saying hand burns need to be treated differently.  what is best treatment and does being on hand change that?   pain is decreasing.  thanks

Size matters here: Any burn's seriousness &amp; urgency of treatment depends on how big the wound is, what caused it, and how deep.  Typically steam from a tea kettle or hot food will be first or second degree. The area, if small and getting less painful and is not surrounding the whole finger or a joint can be treated like any other minor burn.  Silvadene (silver sulfadiazine) helps the pain (but is a prescription). Keep clean, protect area.

Probably: 2nd-degree burns will heal on their own in 1-3 weeks, given good wound care & good nutrition. They are initially red, painful, and possibly covered with blisters. As they heal, they dry up, the blisters slough off, and the pain disappears.

Burn Blister: If the blister is intact, leave it alone! the skin underneath the blister is actually healing while the blister protects it from further damage and infection. Use sterile white petrolatum or petroleum jelly and a light gauze wrap to protect it until it bursts on its own (this can take days).
