do people pass a kidney stone without urinating?

Need to see a doctor: Small (usually less than 5mm) kidney stones usually pass with drinking fluid, ie, urination. If you can't urinate, it's possible that the stone is obstructing the urinary bladder or the urethra. It is better to get evaluated by your dcotor or a urologist.

Follow Up: Some people have kidney stones and do not even know about it, till it get bigger and damages the kidney. Please follow up with your doctor to see if the kidney stone is growing in size or has resolved. Good Luck.

Very likely: The onset of flank pain with radiation to groin area along with some blood in the urine is likely a stone but infection can cause similar symptoms.  Best to see urologist to get testing to confirm diagnosis and appropriate follow up

Here are some ...: Non-moving stones inside kidneys wouldn't induce pain or infection... until their distal move to cause ureteral blockage with or without superimposed UTI. But usually the patient has no urinary symptoms until the stone passes down to the very lower ureter +/- UTI. To sort these things out in detail, seeking pro-evaluation and counseling will help you.

Maybe: If you're predisposed to kidney stones, or think you may be, it's wise to drink plenty of water in any case. It is the total urine volume that matters.

Kidney stone: Find a hospital that has a urology department. Check into the ER and ask to see a urologist.  A urologist may be able to break the stone up and end this horrible pain.

Tough one: I'm often faced w/ pts. w/ AM &amp; PM pain, but little during day.Should still make sure there's not another problem like UTI.Barring that, most frequent cause is neurologic or musculoskeletal.Not enough space, here, but tiredness increases lumbar pain (tired muscles) &amp; muscles tighten during sleep if nerves inflamed, ligaments torn or vertebral dysf.Osteopathic exam/manipulaton/prolotherapy

You need to: see a doctor, because your symptoms could be something else even more serious.  Kidney stones, depending on location, cause severe pain in flank or groin, usually not in hip or buttocks.  It also typically causes microhematuria, not visible to the eye.

No: Kidney stones take months/years to form.  If there was no kidney stone 5 weeks ago, there is essentially no chance one could form and get big enough to become a problem this quick.  Please see your health care provider for further workup and possible consultation with an urologist.
