If the gunshot is on an extremity, the extremity should be elevated to prevent blood loss and a tourniquet tied proximally to the wound to help prevent blood loss. Airway, breathing, and circulation/CPR and rapid 911 response.

Probably every doc : Has had gsw at least as a resident.  It is horrible.  Violent crime whether it is from gangs or or domestic issues or whatever is hideous.  Knives and razors and whatnot.  Awful.

GSW: Gunshot wounds that are complicated by an infection are not uniformly fatal but certainly can at times lead to mortalities. Mortality rates and infection rates typically depend on the  location of the injury. Antibiotics have been quite effective in reducing infection related complications this however will not always be the case

Poorly!: Any gun shot wound requires evaluation by a physician. Even through-and-through GSW's can injure adjacent nerves, blood vessels and organs due to the "blast effect." This is the shock wave that moves ahead of the bullet through the tissue like a violent form of the ripples that spread outward from a rock thrown into a pond. There will never be an easier time to get treated than immediately!

Don't find out: If thru &amp; thru the brain about 100%. Most chest and abdominal gunshots are survivable if the patient gets to a trauma center right away. Injuries to the major blood vessels in neck, chest and abdomen decrease the chance of survival. Some shots to legs and arms can be fatal if major vessels are injured and freely bleed-tourniquets save lives!
