about to finish my 3 day zithromax 500 for strep throat. no more pain, but still having white patches on tonsils... is this normal ? will it take time to disappear or does it mean antibiotic didnt work? thanks a lot

7-10 days: It can take 7-10 days for symptoms to clear entirely, including white patches. Even with a positive strep test, many or most symptoms like this are due to an underlying viral infection -- and no virus responds to azithromycin (Zithromax) or any other antibiotic. Return to your doctor if you still have symptoms after 10 days.

Not uncommon: Even after antibiotic treatment, many children will have a dry cough that lasts six weeks or more. If concerned, see a pediatrician.

Possibly: The standard recommended treatment for chlamydia using Azithromycin would be a single dose (not divided) of 1, 000mg. Retesting for eradication is not usually done unless there are persistent or recurrent symptoms or deviation from recommended treatment.

YES: Taking the last pill a few hours late is not a problem with Zithromax.  Your treatment will still be effective.

STD? BV? Trich?: The most common causes of vaginal discharge with odor are bacterial vaginosis and the STD trichomonas. Neither of these is effectively treated with azithromycin. Perhaps you have something else. If you have tested positive for chlamydia, the normal treatment is just one dose of azithromycin, 2 grams (4 tablets, 250 mg each). It takes a few days for symptoms to clear up. Check with your doctor.

Antibiotics: Antibiotics are not recommended for the majority of cases of sinusitis; decongestants being more important. Since antibiotics are often placebos, it's difficult to say how long they'll take to "work." you generally recover just as fast without them as with them.

Give it time: This med is different than some.It actually attaches to your fat cells after ingestion and gradually enters your blood for a week or more to do its work. That is one reason they use it in STD's, to try to get people to remember all their med.If you take it all at once, you don't have to remember to take more. Yes you can be re-treated but may not need to.
