why do some people do not respond at all to corticosteroid nasal sprays( fluticasone,mometasone)? do steroids fail to reduce inflammation in such people?does it also mean that steroid would be unable to cause any side effect in such bodies/people?

: It doesn’t mean that the steroids are not decreasing inflammation. It could mean that there is another etiology for the symptoms. For example, if a nasal polyp is causing the symptoms, the polyp may need to be removed to treat the symptoms. So, if the nasal steroids are not helping, see an ear/nose/throat specialist for evaluation/treatment. Best of luck to you!

can fluticasone propionate nasal spray cause weight gain ? i've seen people report it since it's a steroid , is it possible??

Very rare: This would be a very rare side effect, and only rarely seen after taking it for a very long time. This is because the steroid acts locally in the nose and the sinuses and is not absorbed by the bloodstream

can a decongestant like mucinex (guaifenesin) and a steroid nasal spray like fluticasone taken too much over time cause loss of smell and taste?

Mucinex (guaifenesin): Is not a nasal decongestant. It is same as Guaifenesin or plain Robitussin which is a mucolytic or expectorant. Chronic nasal congestion can make you lose sense of taste and smell, and likely not the medicines.

i don't get any relief from fluticasone sprays in post nasal drip (oral antihistamines work) which means i am steroid non responder. does it also mean i will be non responsive to oral steroids like prednisolone if ever taken for any medicalcondition?

: No. The minimal or lack of response in your nasal membranes does not indicate how your other tissues will respond. These meds are created to mimic natural steroids made by the human body as a stress response/membrane stabilizer. Over the past 5 decades of product development they have become a standard form of therapy because they work.

Generally: most expiration dates are very "conservative" and drugs are potent long after their "expiration dates' HOWEVER it is NOT a WISE thing to do..Ask your Pharmacist to call the Prescriber for a refill!!! That service is free and your FRESH Prescription is only a few hours away!

: It is probably good, but it would be best not to use the Rx.  If you are experiencing new symptoms, best to ask Physician.  You might need new/other Rx.

i just took fluticasone a second time on accident. i took it this evening around 7 pm and then just now at 11:30 pm. is this a problem?

: You wouldn't want to have extra doses for a long time, but for a few days there is no problem at all, no health risks of any kind.

Mucinex (guaifenesin): Yes you can. If you have excess mucus,your asthma may not be well controlled, i suggest you check your asthma with your treating physician
