Need more info: There is no need to get a cerclage just because you have a twin pregnancy. It is recommended only if there's risk of preterm labor. There are, of course, risks to this procedure - including infection, bleeding, premature rupture of membranes, preterm labor, etc. The success rate ranges from 80-90% if done electively (not emergency). You should discuss further with your OB. Best wishes.

Risky: Orgasm would be expected to be associated with uterine contractions. That could cause a cervical cerclage to bleed or fail.  The general recommendation after a cerclage is placed s for "pelvic rest", i.e. No sex (and no orgasms).

can i have penetrating sex and/or oral sex with a cervix cerclage? and if i do not orgasm during penetrating sex, is it safer than oral sex when i do?

Cerclage stitch: A cerclage is often done with a type of suture called Prolene. It is very sharp like chicken wire. I think your partner would find vaginal penetration very unpleasant. Typically there are no restrictions regarding other sexual activity in patients with a cerclage. You will have to get clearance from your doctor if their are unique circumstances regarding your specific pregnancy.

Usually earlier: A cerclage is typically placed earlier in the pregnancy in patients who meet very specific criteria.  A cervical length of 3 cm would be normal but their could be circumstances that a cerclage may be appropriate.  Do not hesitate to get a second opinion from a perinatologist..

Talk to your OB: There are differing opinions among obs about the value of bed rest after cerclage. You should discuss this with your OB or have a consultation with a high risk pregnancy specialist.

im 15weeks with di/di twins. i get pelvic pressure from time to time. it ranges from mild-moderate. ive had my cervix checked multiple times & it remains long & closed. my obgyn isnt worried but i am terrified to lose my babies. request cerclage?

Twin prgnancies ?'s: Although twin pregnancies cause accelerated pressure and discomfort throughout, the best safeguard for premature delivery is cervical dilation, which can be measured fairly accurately with serial ultrasound.  If significant shortening or dilation of the cervix is detected, a cerclage may be advised if the pregnancy is less than 30 weeks.  Stay in touch with your OB provider.

Hmmmm.  : Let's see.  You had preterm labor at 29 weeks with twins and are pregnant with triplets?  I'd go for cerclage given the risk of an incompetent cervix is present with 3 babies.  I'm guessing you see a perinatologist?  If that's what she/he is recommending, i'd sign up for it.  Good luck.

Seeing doc: Your doc should check regulalry for it and make sure its in place. If you get cramps and bleeding see your doc asap.

Difficult: Your cerclage will be checked by your OB either by inspection or ultrasound. I prefer ultrasound to check for length of cervix and any beaking membranes (amniotic sac pushing into the cervix). You should call your doc if you have pressure or increased discharge (especially watery, mucousy, or blood-tinged) for an evaluation. Try to keep pressure off your cervix and good luck. Avoid any straining.
