Osteomyelitis: Not sure i can answer that easily. Osteomyelitis is a bone infection and unfortunately these are more difficult to treat in diabetics. A lot depends on the status of your blood  flow. The antibiotics need good blood flow to work so if you have good flow it generally improves the prognosis. Also, good sugar control helps.

Many : There isn't just one medication used to treat cellulitis and osteomyelitis. Intravenous antibiotics and surgery are normally used to treat osteomyelitis and cellulitis can be treated with either intravenous or oral antibiotics.

Imprecise ?: You take whatever meds you need to get sugar controlled

and you take correct antibiotics for bacteria they culture from/ or assume is causing your cellulitis.

i'm slim, no diabetes, but got cellulitis from a tiny nick on thigh. will this keep recurring? will i have to obsess over every shaving bump, bug bite and scratch? this has never happened before, and i have no "risk factors" for it, yet have it?

: Has this been a recurrent problem with easily acquired bacterial infections like boils? Are you immunocompromised by virtue of taking certain medications? If not this could have been somewhat of a fluke. Going forward when you get nicked or scratched, clean with soap and water, pat dry and apply an antibacterial ointment.

i have a small, very firm induration on inner thigh, and being treated for cellulitis. i am slim, 49, no diabetes, and this began as a tiny pimple on leg. although antibios have helped cellulitis, the hard lump still remains. what should i do next?

: It may resolve over time if you have been adequately treated. Warm soaks may help . Would follow up with  MD if redness   pain recurs or does not start to resolve over next  week or so  . Ultrasound can help assess  if there is still infection or it is just fibrous tissue. f/u/ w/ MD

i had some ultrasounds and they reported low pulses in the ankles. i also have diabetes and what looks like starting ulcers and cellulitis. what  doc?

Family DOC 1st: Your family doc can help sugar and cholesterol and to decide who else is needed. Blood sugar needs top control (endocrinologist).  More studies may be needed to show the seriosness & possibly stent obstructions (radiologist)  a vascular surgeon might need to bypass arteries. A wound specialist for sure.A podiatrist for toe nails and special shoes.

Redness: from a skin infection should diminish after 2 weeks and especially being on antibiotics during that time as well.  If you are concerned get a check up with your doctor.

Extremely unlikely: There are many causes of swelling without fever, pain, redness etc., symptoms and findings which are required for a diagnosis of cellulitis.

Please get a good rhinologic exam from an otolaryngologist.

Red,hot,swollen: If you had cellulitis one month ago, unless you reinfect yourself, it should not reappear.  Sometimes, if you scratch yourself with dirty nails, or with an object that is not clean, the cellulitis may return. Wash well with soap and water and don't scratch.

See below: Cellulitis is an infection of the skin and subcutaneous tissue caused by a small or microscopic break in the skin that allows staphylococcus or streptococcus colonizing the skin to enter and cause infection. It causes the skin to turn a diffuse red color with warmth, swelling and tenderness.Folliculitis is infection of the hair follicles with inflammation and small pustules of the  hair follicles.
