Yes: Beta blockers,especially the older ones, such as atenolol (Tenormin) and metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol-XL) , can cause weight gain  as a side effect. Discuss with your doctor the possibility of changing to a different beta blocker or a different class of medications that are suitable for your condition

toprol (metoprolol) xl as a beta blocker gives me too much dizziness as a prescription side effect. can i expect that another bb will probably have the same side effect?

Yes: Toprol (metoprol (metoprolol)ol) is a "cardioselective" beta blocker, meaning is binds and effects the heart more than the blood vessels. This is suppose to decrease the side effects. If you are having dizziness from toprol (metoprolol) then i would try using something in a different class. With that said, that rule is not absolute, and depending on your situation a beta blocker + dizziness may be the best choice. Listen to your doc.

taking metoprolol 25mg er and amlopidine 5 mg. have been on since january. now, started having bradycardia and irregular heartbeats. could this be a side effect?

: As a beta blocker, one of the primary effects metoprolol has on the body is to slow the heart rate. If the heart rate is too slow to maintain good perfusion to the body, bradycardic symptoms can occur. You should discuss this with the Doctor Who prescribed the metoprolol to see if an adjustment of the medication dosage or discontinuation is warranted. Good luck.

Paxil (paroxetine): In few cases Paxil (paroxetine) could cause low heart beat as side effect. Metoprolol also decreases heart rate as a drug effect. Combination could cause significantly slow heart rate in your case. Because your resting heart rate with meds is 50-65. So you have to discuss with your physician.

Depends.: First, the cough comes from a particular (treatable) condition. Second, inflammation is almost always present and inhaled steroids or monteleukast are generally helpful.
Then... sugar drops (cough drops) are certainly not going to interact with metoprolol. Also tessalon perls is safe. Decongestants interact with metoprolol... probably would not recommend those.

Inhalers: Beta agonist or steroid or both. Stay away from smoke, especially tobacco. Common inhaled meds include fluticasone, albuteral, salmeteral.

Benzonatate: You can try benzonatate (tesalon perles) which is a non-narcotic cough suppressant that you take by mouth three times a day. Tell your doctor your medical history, allergies, and other symptoms. When did your symptoms start?Do you have any fever or shortness of breath? If so, go get seen in person. Cough: if the cough was due to medication, it would be all day around , not just at night. Most likely etiology of cough is GERD. Try PPI ( Prilosec OTC etc) daily at HS . If not relieved , see and ENT doctor to get checked out for cough at night.
