i am an older adult. i have been waking up with one eye matted. not closed but sticky. it isn't red or irritated. what would cause that?

Infection?: The matting is caused by the build up of excessive eye secretions during the night when your eyes are closed.  Something is irritating your eye, your eyelids, the lash follicles or the inside of the eye lid.  You need to see a doctor or qualified optometrist, find out the cause and get appropriate treatment.  Don't wait until that eye IS red or irritated.

the area of the left eye, prominently the corner where mucus comes out, seems to be irritated/slightly painful when i blink. what can cause this?

Inflamed tear duct: Tears and eye discharge normally drain from the inner corner of the eye into the sinuses, but sometimes can get blocked or inflamed. If not red or swollen, try gentle warm compress to area and gentle massaging pressure to see if you can free up any fluid buildup. If redness or worsening pain, please see a general or eye health provider.

seven month ago cum hit my left eye and nothing happen put eye drop and water, right now my left eye is a bit irritated or is it different reason my left eye irritated?

: It is likely a different reason than the incident months ago.

is it possible to have dry eye symptoms in one eye only? my eye feels irritated soon after using phone, have checked for all possible causes, doc says everything is fine & suggested to use systane drops, but they give temporary relieve. what to do?

: A dry eye sensation can be the result of multiple issues, including the source of tears, the system of ducts, foreign bodies, allergies , infections and other factors.  It's best to seek another evaluation by an ophthalmologist to search for the underlying cause of this symptom.

nose ? cont.-could this cause my eye dark circles? my nose has redness and gets irritated easily. it bleeds instantly when i clean lightly with qtip..

Possibly: By itself this does not cause the circles but increased sinus congestion can cause swelling around the midface which  makes these circles appear more prominent

when i close one eye the eyelid of the closed eye twitches. this happens on both sides. it actually happens when both eyes are closed too. what could cause this? should i be concerned? i have pretty bad dry eye and eyes so irritated?

: Being nervous could cause that in some people, and mineral imbalance may also do that. In view of other problems with your eyes it may be best to see a professional to examine your eyes; though loss of sight may not happen with twitchy eyes it is still important to get your eyes checked and probably use artificial tears.

: It could from compression of nerves if you slept on one side for a long time. It should subside in a few hours, if not sooner. If it persists, it would be prudent to see a doctor.

Help needed: Need to diagnose whether it is conjunctivitis, epi-scleritis or true scleritis! what looks like one may be another! implications of one diagnosis drastically different than another! best advice is to see an eyemd for diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Irritation: You may have something under your eyelid. I recoomend using saline eye wash to try to rinse it out. If that doesnt work try lubricating eye drops. You may have dry eyes or eye allergies.  See an eye doctor if these dont work.
