Seroquel (quetiapine) is not: an insomnia medication. Its an antipsychotic used in the management of Mood disorders and Schizophrenia. Try melatonin 4 mg (you can get it over the counter) There are patient assistance programs for similar meds to seroquel (quetiapine). Talk to your doctor about help with procuring medication.

Cause?: Depends on the cause of the insomnia.  Medications can be helpful but not curative if the insomnia, per se, is caused by anxiety, panic or another primary sleep disorder.  Also some medications used to treat insomnia can worsen other medical conditions.  See someone that treats these things all the time.

Insomnia: The causes of insomnia varies , it is a complicated issue.It depends on personal factors like what you do during the day, what thoughts occupy your mind, how much physical excercise you get, the kind of foods you eat, the amount of relaxation you get.

Sleep hygiene: Getting up at same time every day, 7 days per week, regular exercise but not right before bed, and going to sleep at the same time every night. If you aren't using stimulants and this doesn't help, see your doctor for a work up of the problem.

Unlikely: It may be because you were in deep sleep and weren't alarmed to wake up to empty your bladder. Try avoiding caffeinated beverages or drinking a lot before retiring, and empty your bladder as well before going to bed at night, if that doesn't work, call/see your doctor, best wishes

Sleep hygiene : Good sleep hygiene is critical to relieving insomnia. 1) go to bed each night at the same time and get up each morning at the same time, at least seven hours later. 2) avoid large meals before bedtime. 3) don't do anything in bed except sleep or sex. No gadgets. 4) if you awaken, leave bed for a comfortable chair and read in soft lighting until tired and return to bed.  Get up at prescribed time.
