No: If the inhaler helps your wheezing or your cough, then it's a good idea.

Pneumonia: see your doctor. may need repeat chest X-rays and blood work up to make sure things have cleared up.

will using qvar inhaler help heal pneumonia, already on antibiotic?

Accepted Answer

Not exactly: If your airways are very irritated from coughing the steroid will reduce the inflammation and may reduce the cough reflex you feel due to that irritation.  It won't directly improve the lung injury from the pneumonia and it may not work at all - but is worth trying if you are miserable.

why has my breathing gotten very difficult? could it be a sign of pneumonia? it's not my asthma because my inhalers  were unhelpful.

Still maybe asthma: I think you should seek medical help immediately. If the inhalers are not working, this is usually not good. It may still be your asthma acting up or something else, you need to be evaluated. If there is no doctor you can reach, head to the emergency room.

Walking pneumonia: Not sure what your team means by walking pneumonia? If you are walking then you can likely speed it up a bit but ask your team.

Distressed?: I am assuming your son is fairly young. If he is showing any signs of distress when breathing like using lots of his chest muscles, belly muscles, flaring his nostrils, breathing fast, then yes he needs to go to the er tonight. It sounds like you've tried the therapy at home you can (his inhaler) and if not getting better, he needs more care and monitoring.

Slight chance: Asthma worsens with "colds" and the increased asthma can last for up to 4 months after a viral respiratory infection so the asthma symptoms may decrease but if they have persisted at same level for 3 months this is less likely. Since you are using  albuterol inhaler daily you should be on maintenance anti-inflammatory inhaler also. Consult your md or asthma specialist.

Maybe, maybe not: Some of these symptoms are seen with pneumonia, such as cough, chest congestion, etc, but they may be seen with other problems such as bronchitis or asthma exacerbation. A normal chest xray is a factor against pneumonia but is not always 100% accurate.  The best approach would be to discuss the situation with ones doctor and determine if there is an infection or non infectious lung issue.
