Here are some ...: If there was no right varicocele before right inguinal herniorrhaphy, there would be no surgically anatomical reason to cause right varicocele, but some post-herniorrhaphy hydrocele is likely.

Yes: A varicocele is an abnormal enlargement of the veins draining the testicle. Open inguinal hernia surgery is performed in close proximity to these veins which can be tied off if bleeding is encountered or just scarred down from the surgery. This at times may be an inevitable complication due to the anatomy of inguinal hernia.

It can: If the pampinaform plexus are injured during the repair, it can manifest as a varicocele.  This happens infrequently, but not a detrimental occurrence.

i had inguinal hernia on right side and now left side often hurts on same place but ultrasound doesnt show hernia. what could it be? is it dangerous? i also have varicocele in my left testicle. thanks?

: It could be a strain /sprain. You dont need an ultrasound to diagnose an inguinal hernia. A good clinical exam will diagnose it. Sometimes a large varicocele can give a 'dragging' kind of pain. Use local heat and ibuprofen for a few days and if not better see a doc who will do a good hands on clinical exam. Wear a good supprt underwear for the varicocele. Hope you feel better

i had surgey for inguinal hernia and varicocele 5 months ago, not laparoscopic.a few days ago i started light training in the gym, cycling, running, lifting weights 15 kg)and now a slight pain appeared at the site of the operation. i need to stop?

: You might have strained the area. If there is no bulge there then reduce your training intensity a bit, use local heat anf it should be better in a week or so. if not- pl get checked out. Good luck

do i have an inguinal hernia or a varicocele? i have a bulge in the scrotum of my left testicle  but not in the groin its been 3 weeks since my testicle was hurting due to lifting and only the left scrotum is in pain?

Scrotal bulge: Given the history may be a hernia . Would follow up with a urologist as they can do the ultrasound to assess for hernia versus varicocele.

if you had a testicle torsion, would discomfort go on for many months/ years? my 36 year old son, who had inguinal hernia surgery at age 4, always complains of pain in lower left abdomen and testicle, he has vericocele too, is this a serious worry?

: Sometimes one of the nerves ( ilio inguinal or ilio hypogastic )  can get caught in the scar after any inguinal surgery can cause such symptoms. Varicocele causes a dull ache or feeling of heaviness. It is not serious but he should see a Urologist.

Untreated: If you mean an untreated inguinal (groin) hernia. Complications of a hernia can be pain, hernia enlargement, low risks of bowel obstruction, hernia incarceration or strangulation resulting in dead bowel... Most inguinal hernias do not get complications.

Physical exam: By an experienced Surgeon. If there is any doubts an MRI is confirmatory in most cases

Not necessarily: Some people choose to live with an inguinal hernia if it is not causing them too much discomfort. What you need to know is that if the hernia becomes hard, painful and not reducible (you can't push it back in) then you need to go to the emergency department as soon as possible as this is a surgical emergency.
